Xrender

Backstep normally draws icons with the image specified by the application. However, it also includes code to use the Xrender, Xdamage, and Xcomposite extensions to draw icons that mirror the window contents. This doesn't work too well yet, as I don't know what I'm doing. At a minimum, the scaling is off so there's an extra negative strip at the bottom of the icons, and window resizes aren't yet handled. Stability may be an issue, too. But you can play around with it by adding the following line to the file ~/.backstep (or editing it if its already there and turned off):
